Katana Edo Samurai Sword by Marto of Toledo Spain
The Katana Edo Samurai sword is a high quality replica reproduction of the original held in the Marto private collection that dates back to the Edo age, a period in japanese history stretching from 1603, after the establishment of the Tokugawa shogunate to the year 1868 with the Meiji restoration. The Edo age characterizes itself as a long period of peace with the consequent decadence of the samurai figure. The stylistic evolution of the weapons produced during those centuries, reflects this situation: in fact the katana sword showed here has both the scabbard and the handgrip made in ivory (resin in the reproduction), engraved with scenes of daily life, that denote a ceremonial function and not a fighting one.
